Class of 2021's DP Group 4 Project
“The group 4 project is a collaborative activity where students from different group 4 subjects work together on a scientific or technological topic, allowing for concepts and perceptions from across the disciplines to be shared.
The group 4 project allows students to appreciate the environmental, social and ethical implications of science and technology. The emphasis is on interdisciplinary cooperation and the processes involved in scientific investigation, rather than the products of such investigation.” (Chemistry Guide, First Exams 2016)
The theme for this year’s Group 4 project is “Surviving a Zombie Attack”. The school administration has been notified that zombies are coming, and they are projected to attack the school premises soon as they are approaching Wuri District and running towards the vicinity through Xinyi Street. Their most probable entrance to the building is the back gate, so it is highly probable that the field will serve as battleground to fight for everyone’s survival.
This year’s Grade 11 IBDP batch of thirty-two (32) students were randomly grouped to maximize the opportunity for personal skills to be assessed. Each team focused on a plan to be able to survive the zombie attack. During the brainstorming session, the whole class decided on the teams that will complete different tasks based on the completeness of their plan. Scientific investigations were carried out by determining a research question and planning a methodology to address the question, analyze data, and present to an audience via a video format that aims to inform them digitally on how each team plans to survive this attack.
